I had a chance to sit down with Kara Goucher on Thursday.

It’s the first time I’ve seen her since news of Goucher’s pregnancy appeared in the New York Times.

Her pregnancy is going well after some initial worry. I have story going into Tuesday’s Oregonian about that.

I can tell you that the smell of coffee makes her a little queasy and that she has been having dairy cravings.

“I usually don’t have much dairy,” she said. “But if I want ice cream or cheese, I’m going to eat it.”

The Gouchers are having a boy, due Sept. 29.

When she’s not thinking about her impending motherhood, Goucher’s mind drifts to the Boston Marathon.

“I obsess over it,” Goucher said. “When I run a tempo run all I think about is that I’m in the last 10K of the Boston Marathon. It’s my favorite race that I’ve ever run. I love it.”

She can’t wait to get back there and try to deliver a victory to all of the people who cheered for her along the race route in 2009. She feels like she has unfinished business there. Boston will come six and a half months after her due date. She’s not sure if that will give her enough time to get into good enough shape to compete for the victory in 2011.

After she delivers the baby, Goucher said she anticipates running again in October, training in November and December, and perhaps doing a couple of indoor races.

“Running is still really important to me and I have a lot of really big goals,” she said.

I told Kara that, with all due respect, it seemed that Jordan Hasay had become the most popular track athlete living in the state (based on unscientific data related to TrackFocus posts).

She didn’t disagree.

“I’m a big fan of Jordan Hasay. Any time I see a link about her, I click on it,” she said. “I think she’s got so much potential. The other day we were about to go somewhere and I was like, ‘Hold on, I need to see what Jordan is running at Pac-10s!”
