If you showed up at Algonquin’s Buffalo Wild Wings on Sunday looking to relax with a plate of drummies and a tall cold one, you were in for quite a shock. A packed house was there to greet you and no bats, balls or shoulder pads appeared on the multitude of TVs. Today was all about barriers, water pits, spikes, stars and stripes. The Chicago Cubs game and talk from Bears training camp made way for track & field action from the London Olympics.
All the monitors at the popular beer and wing joint were tuned into a live video feed to watch their hometown hero, Olympic steeplechaser Evan Jager.
As you can see below, it’s a good thing the fire marshall didn’t show up, The building could barely contain the outpouring of love and support for the former Jacobs High School star. Those attending the viewing party adorned ”Evan Jager – Olympian. It Has A Nice Ring To It” shirts and a Mini-Jager look-a-like took part in the celebration.
Competing in only his seventh ever steeplechase, Jager did his hometown proud finishing in a respectable 6th place in his first Olympics.
In the hearts of those who gathered in the small Illinois town, he is their champion.
