After an injury filled 2011 and a frustrating 4th place finisn at the US Olympic Marathon Trials last January, the Nike Oregon Project’s Dathan Ritzenhein put that all behind him with a great run at Sunday’s Chicago Marathon.
The former Colorado Buffalo and current Portland resident ran personal best by over 2 minutes, finishing the 26.2 mile distance in 2:07:47. Ritzenhein’s former high school teammate and Oregon graduate Jason Hartmann helped pace his friend in Chicago.
The guy’s over at LetsRun.com his performance as he now sits as the #3 fastest US marathoner of all-time.
After the breakthrough, the happiness and relief was evident as Ritz talked in his post-race interview with Flotrack (see video below)
Former Duck Carlos Trujillo finished as the 3rd best American, 18th overall with a time of 2:14:21. Craig Leon of Team Run Eugene finished 20th with a new PR of 2:15:38.
