Oregon Weekend Racing Recap

Though the UO cross country squads had the week off from competition, there was plenty of action from former Ducks and Oregon based athletes racing all around the world.

World Half Marathon Championships
Starting off the weekend, recent graduate Luke Puskedra represented Team USA at the World Half Marathon Championships in Kavarna, Bulgaia. Puskedra finished the hot and humid race 17th in 1:02:46 as the men’s US team w. Oregon Track Club Portland’s Shalane Flanagan also participating finishing a distant 25th place. Chicago Marathon
Oregon alum’s Jason Hartmann and Carlos Trujillo each participated in a very fast marathon Sunday in Chicago.

USA 10 Mile Championships
OTC Portland’s Kara Goucher was in Minneapolis for her first race after the Olympic Marathon. After taking 6 weeks off, Goucher placed placed second to Janet Cherobon-Bawcom.

Goucher OTC Portland teammates Brent Vaughn, Tim Nelson and Chris Solinksky also participated in the 10 mile championship along with former Duck Shadrack Biwott

Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon
OTC Portland’s Simon Bairu outlasted a competitive men’s field to win in 1:03:28, two seconds ahead of second place finisher Sergio Reyes. (Story from Competitor.com)

Long Beach Half Marathon
Oregon alum and Team McMillan Elite runner Danny Mercado notched a victory in the 13.1 mile race.

Last but not least, the University of Oregon celebrated the women’s track and field team’s 2012 NCAA Indoor National Championship at halftime of the Duck football game.
