Coaches Alberto Salazar and Steve Magness have added another elite distance runner to the roster of the Oregon Project.  2011 indoor 5000m champ and Tennessee alum, Jackie Areson has joined the Portland based group that includes Galen Rupp, Kara Goucher, Dathan Ritzenhein, Amy Yoder-Begley and Mo Farah.

Areson travelled down to Hayward Field and competed in the 1500m at the Oregon Twilight.  Arson placed 2nd behind Brie Felnagle in her first race since victory at College Station.

“It went well…it was her first race with us.  She’s a little rusty, but set a PR,” explained Magness.

The decision to join up with the Oreon Project happened about three weeks ago and Areson arrived in Oregon this Monday.  After the long trip and first race of outdoors, she didn’t appear too weary.  ”I’m excited.   This is something I’ve been waiting for, for a long time.  It’s not that crazy of a change so far,” said Areson.

Her goal for the current outdoor season is to compete for a spot in the 5000m and earn a trip to the world championships in Daegu, South Korea.
